Top 13 Things To Do In Singapore

2

If you were asked by a random person what you know about Singapore, but you were never there, most probably you would answer that it’s a very modern city in Southeast Asia, with a bunch of skyscrapers. That’s actually true – it’s a small financial and commercial hub, full of huge, tall buildings. However, Singapore is much more than this. It’s a city of a lot of contrasts – in a couple of minutes you can transfer from modern constructions area into the world of typical Chinatown or Indian street stands and restaurants.

Marina Bay Sands is a luxurious 5* hotel featuring a huge boat on its roof (sounds hilarious, right?) and world’s highest and largest infinity pool (more about it in this post). On top of it there is an observation deck “Sands SkyPark” which provides the best panoramic views of city’s major spots. If you’re not a hotel guest, decide carefully when you’d like to access the SkyPark (during the day, at the sunset, at night) since the entrance fee for adults is S$23 (around $20). It is totally worth it as you’ll get to see marvellous Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Strait, Marina South Pier, not to mention the stunning view of endless skyscrapers.

STROLL IN GARDENS BY THE BAY / Pasear por los jardines Gardens By The Bay

A perfect place for relax and mind disconnection. It’s a green area with more than 1 million plant species cultivated daily by the gardens’ staff. Inside the gardens you will find Supertree Grove (12 tall, tree-like gardens – the tallest one is 16 storeys high), Conservatory Flower Dome (world’s biggest glass greenhouse) and Cloud Forest (display of plants from tropical highlands), Dragonfly and Kingfisher lakes as to mention the most characteristic points.

GET TO KNOW THE CLOUD FOREST AND FLOWER DOME / Conocer el Cloud Forest y Flower Dome

As I mentioned above, these two modern glass constructions are home to different plant and flower species. Even if you’re not that into gardening, you will get astonished at how well the plants are preserved and cultivated.

SEE HELIX BRIDGE / Ver el puente Helix

Made entirely out of glass and stainless steel tubes, this bridge gives you the impression of being in the scene of a science fiction movie.

DISCOVER THE AMAZING INTERIOR OF THE FULLERTON HOTEL / Descubrir el interior del increible Hotel Fullerton

I entered Fullerton’s hall and couldn’t believe its elegant interior – especially those glittering chandeliers and perfectly shining floor, no wonder it was named one of the 100 World’s Best Hotels. If you’re interested in getting a real blogger review of this hotel, check Angie’s Silverspoonlondon Blog Post.

TAKE A PIC WITH MERLION / Tomar una foto con Merlion

Another top thing to do in Singapore is to get a close look at Merlion. Prepare for bumping into crowds of people, as this city spot is very popular with tourists since Merlion, half-lion and half-fish mythical creature, is a well-known Singapore icon.

GET TO KNOW THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT / Conocer el distrito financiero

How to get there??? Yes! You’re right :), just follow those huuuuge skyscrapers :). I was walking through its streets with my eyes pointing up as I was truly amazed by all of the modern glass constructions.

You will need a whole day to properly visit Singapore Botanical Garden as there are so many different areas that are worth exploring. I particularly recommend National Orchid Garden where you will find an amazing collection of different types and colours of orchids. View THIS post to learn more 🙂

If you’re around financial district and you don’t mind walking a bit (I don’t and it’s not that far away), go to explore Chinatown. It is a perfect place to get souvenirs and a glass of beer without having an impression of overpaying.

HAVE LUNCH BY THE WATERFRONT PROMENADE / Almorzar en el Paseo Maritimo

There is a nice Italian restaurant overlooking the bay. You can sit outside and get their $20 menu (soft drink, appetizer, main dish and a dessert) and enjoy Singapore skyline in nice surroundings.

SEE LIGHT AND WATER SHOW AT THE BAY / Ver el espectáculo de luz y agua

At around 7:45 pm find yourself a place on the steps of Marina Bay (just outside the shopping center located in front of Marina Bay Sands Hotel) as at 8:00 pm starts Light and Water Show and the place gets very crowded (and otherwise you won’t be able to record a good video or take a decent pic).

GO FOR A SWIM IN SENTOSA / Ir a nadar en la isla de Sentosa

Water here is very very warm, you can get in and out of the water as many times as you want to and you will shiver not even a single time. Works great for me as I am sensitive to the cold person :).
